Noah Finds Grace
Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
Genesis chapters 5-9:17
(This chapter gives the generations from Adam to Noah. It covers many hundreds of years. I have noted a few standouts.)
Verse 3 Adam is 130 years old when he has his son Seth (which means “appointed”).
Verses 4 – 5 Adam lives another 800 years AFTER Seth is born, and has other sons and daughters. He is 930 years old when he dies.
Verse 8 Seth lives to be 912 years old.
Verse 24 “And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” “And he was not” means he was no longer on the earth. Hebrews 11:5 tells us that he did not die.
Verses 25-27 Methuselah lived longer than any other man – 969 years. This puts him dying the same year as the flood, or in it. (Note – He is Noah’s grandfather)
Verse 28-32 Noah is born to Lamech. Noah means “Rest” because Lamech said that Noah would bring comfort.
Verse 3 – God says that He will not strive with man forever. He says that will stop in 120 years.
Verse 5 – The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that “every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Verse 6 – The Lord is sorry He made man on the earth.
Verse 8 “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
Verse 9 “ Noah walked with God.”
Verses 11-12 The earth is filled with violence.
Verses 13-22 God tells Noah that He is going to destroy the earth, and gives Noah plans for an ark to save his family and the animals.
Note: Verse 19 Two of every sort into the ark, male and female
Verse 1 God says Noah has been righteous before God
Verses 2-5 God gives Noah more instructions
Note: Verses 2 and 3 Seven of every clean animal, a male and his female; Two of the unclean animals, a male and his female; Seven of each bird of the air, male and female.
Note: Verse 5 Noah did according to ALL that the Lord commanded him.
Verses 6-8:19 Noah, his family, and the animals go into the Ark and are shut inside it for 1 year and 10days (7:11 and 8:13-14)
Note: Verse 12 Rained for 40 days and 40 nights
Verse 17 Waters rose up for 40 days
Verse 24 waters remained on the earth 150 days before beginning to recede.
Chapter 8 Verses 20-22 Noah praises and worships God. God makes a promise (v21)
Verse 3 – purpose of all animals
Verse 5-7 God makes a law “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed;”
Verse 11 God makes a promise to never again destroy all flesh by water.
Verse 12 -17 God gives a sign of the promise he’s made – the rainbow
