The Tower of Babel
Verse 1 The whole earth had one language and one speech.
Verse 2 Came to the plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
Verse 3 They decide to make bricks. They had asphalt for mortar.
Verse 4 They wanted to build a city with a tower whose top “is in the heavens;”
Verse 5 The Lord came down to see the city and the tower.
Verse 6 “And the Lord said, ‘Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.’”
Verse 7 The Lord says “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language…”
Verse 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad, and they ceased building the city.
Verse 9 It’s name is Babel, because the Lord confused the language of all the earth.
Note: This is the same place where later the city, and the nation, of Babylon will come from.
